PETALING JAYA: Sunway Property, the property division of Sunway Group, has completed its RM30 million public infrastructure upgrading works in Petaling Jaya, with the final milestone being today’s official opening of the 250-metre-long Sunway Serene bridge.
Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah said the project consists of extensive upgrades to existing road networks as well as rehabilitation of the 15-acre Sunway Serene Lake in tandem with its planning for the 17-acre Sunway Serene development.
According to him, the successful completion of Sunway Serene is another testament to its commitment to the local community.
“We worked closely with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to rehabilitate the 15-acre lake that is now the centerpiece of this development,” he said in his speech at the opening of Sunway Serene Bridge.
He said the public road networks around the areas were upgraded and new walkways were built in line with the group’s vision of transforming the area.
Cheah also said that Sunway has fully embraced the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which were adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
“Last year, we took our commitment to sustainability one step further by implementing a carbon-pricing network framework to achieve our net zero carbon emissions pledge by 2050.
“Our business division will work towards its own decarbonisation targets,” he said.
The extensive road upgrades alleviate traffic congestion and smoothen the passageways to the public transport network system.
At the same time, Sunway Property adopted and rehabilitated the 15-acre lake near Sunway Serene during the construction period.
Prior to Sunway Property’s adoption of the lake, the water in the lake was classified as Class IV and V, making it not ideal for recreational purposes.
Sunway Serene, worth RM1 billion in gross development value, was completed in January 2023 and is being handed over to its purchasers. – Bernama
